ART PSYCHOTHERAPY

What is Art Psychotherapy?

Art therapy is a way to work with both adults and children to address trauma or anxiety using a creative outlet. This can be helpful for those who are nonverbal or struggle with communicating or verbally expressing.

Painting and play can facilitate developmental attunement. Drawing utilises the right brain and can take us out of logical thinking, engaging us into the right brain hemisphere. The right hemisphere connects intuitive expression. Children can be described as predominantly right brained; therefore art materials allow sessions to connect deeply with children including those on the autistic spectrum, and adults suffering from trauma.

Research suggests that engaging in right brain activities can heal trauma.
